Learning Objectives: Course Competencies, Learning Outcomes, and Objectives Upon the successful completion of this course the student will be able to: Competency I: Analyze and describe the legal environment of business, the court systems, the trial process and alternative dispute resolution, the U. S. Constitution with a focus on application to business, criminal law and business, the elements of torts, torts which often occur in a business setting, product liability, and international perspectives on selected topics in these legal areas. Competency II: Analyze the traditional business law issues in real and personal property, intellectual property, contracts, The Uniform Commercial Code, the international sales of goods, negotiable instruments, credit transactions, bankruptcy, business organizations, employment relationships, regulatory processes, and international perspectives on selected topics in these legal areas. Competency III: Analyze traditional business law issues in employment law, employment discrimination law, environmental law, consumer protection law, antitrust law, securities law and the international legal environment of business and international perspective on selected topics in these legal areas. Competency IV: Develop skills to identify legal issues related to business and forecast the probable resolution of those issues by reference to statutes, regulations, case law, and other authority. Competency V: Resolve a legal problem through legal research utilizing legal research databases, Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis. Competency VI: Analyze and Resolve ethical issues and recognize the social responsibility of businesses throughout the course.
